What’s Holding You Back?
Let’s have an honest moment...what’s really holding you back?
That dream you’ve been sitting on, the business you said you were going to start, the promotion you hoped would come, the podcast idea you keep pushing to “next month”, or fill in your blank, why hasn’t it happened yet?
Now, I’m not asking to judge or to shame you. I’m asking because I’ve been there. I’m still there sometimes. And this past week, I had to pause and ask myself the very same question. I realized, once again, that often the biggest roadblock standing between us and our goals... is us.
We know how to come up with reasons that sound logical. The economy is hard. I don’t have the right equipment. My manager overlooked me. My family doesn’t support me. I don’t have the money. These are all real experiences, but they’re not always the truth about what’s stopping us. They are circumstances; they don’t have to be our excuses.
Let me flip the question for you. Instead of focusing on what you don’t have, think about what you do have. What could you use right now that you’ve overlooked or discounted?
Maybe you don’t have the latest tech setup to start your podcast—but you do have a phone that records and you talk on it every day. Maybe you don’t have investors lined up, but you have clothes you don’t wear, tools you don’t use, or skills that could bring in extra income.
See, we’re often waiting for the bag to drop from the sky, for someone to show up and tell us we’re ready, or for conditions to be perfect, but the truth is, perfect doesn’t come. You create movement by starting. You gain clarity by doing. And you get unstuck by acting on what you already have.
I used to say I was a perfectionist. But I stopped calling myself that. Because I realized I was giving myself a title that made it easier to delay. When I told myself I was a perfectionist, I gave myself permission not to move until things felt “just right.” In reality, the message I wanted to share was already in me and it didn’t need to be dressed up before it could be delivered. It just needed to be spoken.
Many of us are walking around with diamonds, but we’ve convinced ourselves it’s just a rock. We wait to polish it until we think others will approve. Know that your vision is yours. It wasn’t given to everyone else. It was given to you for a reason. That reason doesn’t always come with applause, with agreement, or with outside validation.
Here’s something else we have to learn: comfort can be a trap. The things we say we’re clinging to for “security” often become the very things that confine us. That job, that relationship, that version of ourselves we’re scared to evolve beyond—it’s not always safety. Sometimes it’s just what we’ve gotten used to.
Some of us want the soft life, but many of us haven’t done the hard work that earns us the peace we’re craving...spoken with love. Because I want you to get to that rest, that ease, that joy. But it starts with truth. It starts with being real about where we are, what we’re avoiding, and what we’ve told ourselves we can’t do when deep down, we know we can.
Sometimes the road feels slow. Sometimes you try a shortcut and it turns into a detour. It’s still movement. It’s still progress. And even when something looks like a mistake, it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. I shared a story in the episode about a car I thought was a bad purchase, something I was embarrassed by, but years later, it worked out in a way I couldn’t have imagined. Sometimes what we think is failure is just timing waiting to catch up with purpose.
So, let me ask you again: What’s holding you back?
Is it doubt? Fear? Waiting on someone else to believe in you before you believe in yourself?
You don’t need a perfect plan. You need a first step. And you need to take it with what you’ve got.
Don’t wait for Monday. Don’t wait for a miracle. Don’t wait until it looks a certain way. You have a voice, a vision, and something to offer right now.
You are not behind. You are not broken. You are not too late.
You are powerful. You are capable. You are ready, even if you don’t feel like it yet.
And the best part? You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to be willing to move forward with honesty, humility, and heart.
Let’s stop blaming the job. Let’s stop waiting for the apology. Let’s stop waiting for others to agree, or someone to come pull us out. Let's free ourselves from the mindset of lack and move into growth and abundance that leads you to your dream outcome.
You’ve got what it takes. If you ever forget, come back to this space and I’ll remind you.
