Whose Side Are You On?
This isn’t about taking sides in a debate. It’s about rooting for yourself. It’s about having your own back, just like you’d cheer for your favorite team or friend. Too often, we put so much faith in others, yet we hesitate to place that same faith in ourselves. We’ll cheer for sports teams, politicians, or celebrities—but when it comes to betting on our own dreams and goals, we fall silent. Today, I want you to ask yourself: Are you rooting for yourself? Or, are you standing in your own way?
What Are You Working On?
Think about the journey you’re on right now. It could be improving your health, advancing your career, building a better relationship, or simply growing as a person. Why did you start this journey? Maybe it wasn’t for the money or fame, but for the mission or personal growth. Whatever it is, hold on to that reason because it’s what will keep you going when things get tough.
But here’s the catch—so many of the obstacles we face are self-inflicted. From procrastination to negative self-talk, we can be our own biggest hurdles. You may be wondering, “What’s holding me back?” Here are some common ways we self-sabotage:
- Procrastination: Waiting for the perfect moment, which never seems to come.
- Negative Self-Talk: Talking down to yourself instead of lifting yourself up.
- Seeking Validation from Others: Expecting people to understand or approve of your dream, even when they may not be able to see it.
Self-Inflicted Obstacles: Are You in Your Own Way?
The truth is, we often stop ourselves more than anyone else. We allow distractions to keep us from our goals. We listen to others’ doubts rather than our own beliefs. We stop working on our dreams because someone once told us it wasn’t possible. But let’s be real—if half the world can doubt something, and yet it still finds a way to succeed, then what’s stopping you?
It’s time to acknowledge the “bottlenecks” in our lives. Picture a Coke bottle: lots of potential inside, but only a small opening. What’s choking your productivity, your focus, and your dreams? Identify the obstacles in your path that you have control over, and ask yourself: Whose side am I on?
Start Rooting for Yourself
If you’re waiting for someone else to cheer you on, it’s time to change the narrative. Here’s how to start rooting for yourself:
- Set Small, Achievable Goals: Focus on making progress one step at a time.
- Celebrate Every Win: No matter how small. Be your biggest fan, just like you’d celebrate your favorite team’s victory.
- Distance from Negative Energy: People or things that bring you down aren’t worth your time.
- Take Responsibility: Acknowledge the role you play in your journey—both the good and the challenging.
Whose Side Are You Really On?
Imagine if we backed ourselves with the same passion we give to our favorite teams. Imagine what we could achieve if we believed in our potential. It’s time to get on our own side. It’s time to bet on ourselves, to believe in our dreams as much as we believe in the people we cheer for.
